Job Summary: The High School Dance Team Coach is responsible for developing, leading, and managing the dance team at SSHS. This role involves creating choreography, organizing practices and performances, and fostering a positive, collaborative team environment. The coach will work closely with students, parents, and school administration to ensure the dance team's success both on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Choreography and Instruction:
- Develop and choreograph routines for performances, competitions, and pep rallies.
- Provide instruction on dance techniques, routines, and performance skills.
- Ensure routines are age-appropriate and adhere to safety and performance standards.
Team Management:
- Recruit, select, and train team members, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
- Foster team spirit and camaraderie among team members.
- Manage and address any issues related to team dynamics, conflicts, or performance.
Practice and Performance Scheduling:
- Plan and conduct regular team practices and rehearsals.
- Coordinate and schedule performances, including school events, competitions, and community outreach.
- Ensure all practices and performances are well-organized and adhere to a set schedule.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of team attendance, performance schedules, and progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.
- Handle logistical aspects of the team, such as uniforms, travel arrangements, and equipment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all practices and performances adhere to safety guidelines and regulations.
- Provide first aid and manage injuries or health concerns in accordance with school policies.
- Stay updated on relevant regulations and guidelines pertaining to high school dance teams.
Fundraising and Budget Management:
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support team activities and expenses.
- Manage the dance team budget, including expenses for uniforms, travel, and other necessities.
Community Engagement:
- Represent the dance team at school and community events, fostering a positive image for the team and school.
- Engage with parents and community members to build support and enthusiasm for the dance program.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in dance, education, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in dance instruction and/or coaching is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong dance and choreography skills across various styles.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Strong understanding of team dynamics and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and first aid.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate dance movements and techniques.
- Capability to stand, walk, and lead practices for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
