About the Department

Routine clerical and office support work of ordinary difficulty that includes typing, filing, sorting and distributing paperwork, answering the telephone, and greeting the public.  Assignments usually follow standard work routines in accordance with established procedures and are normally performed under direct or general supervision.

Position Duties

  • Prepares and types correspondence and reports of a routine or repetitive nature.  
  • Sorts and routes paperwork and mail through proper channels.  
  • Files paperwork and correspondence and maintains filing system.  
  • May order office supplies and keep records of transactions.  
  • Answers the telephone and routes callers to appropriate channels.  
  • May maintain a comprehensive filing system and minor databases for the assigned unit. 
  • Serves as a receptionist, greeting and answering inquiries from the public related to departmental operations and procedures.  
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent with some experience or training in the operation of a personal computer; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.

Other Qualifications

Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment.
 
Ability to use correct grammar and spelling.
 
Ability to perform basic arithmetic with speed and accuracy.
 
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, orally and in writing.
 
Ability to deal with the public and employees with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
 
Ability to perform posting and other detail work with speed and accuracy.
