About The Role
Every day, young people come through our doors carrying the weight of trauma, instability, and crisis. Many are also parents—doing their best to raise children while navigating enormous challenges. That’s where you come in. At The Salvation Army Youth Services, your work is more than a job—it’s a calling.
We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Specialist Children’s Practitioner to walk alongside these young families, offering support, tools, and connection that help break the cycle of crisis and create stronger futures.
Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator, this is a permanent part-time position, 22.5 hours per week, based in St Kilda and Chadstone, VIC.
Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.
You Will Successfully
You’ll play a critical role in shaping the lives of children and young parents by:
- Deliver compassionate, tailored parenting education and group programs
- Supportfamilies through assessments and strength-based planning
- Empower parents with attachment-based strategies and child development knowledge
- Collaborate with our case workers to ensure holistic, child-focused care
- Create engaging, relevant resources that meet each family where they are
- Lead staff training to embed trauma-informed, child-centred practice
- Champion safety, stability, and healing at every step
You Will Have
- A tertiary degree in social work or related discipline
- Experience (or training) in early childhood education is a plus
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed work with children and families
- Confidence in delivering parenting education or developmental tools
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence and Employee Working with Children Check
