Additional Information: Show/Hide Date: August 19, 2025 From: Office of Superintendent Subject: Vacancy Position: School Counselor – PHS Pennsauken Public Schools is an urban/suburban Pre-K to 12th grade school district of approximately 5,000 students located in Camden County, New Jersey
Responsibilities:
Participates in the evaluation, classification and placement of all pupils with special needs
Administers, scores and evaluates standard psychological tests for the purpose of assessing the intellectual, educational, emotional, social and behavioral characteristics of those students referred
Interprets the results of psychological testing and assists in the development and coordination of an appropriate individualized education plan for each pupil requiring special education and/or related services and participates in the ongoing evaluation of the academic progress and educational placement of classified pupils
Serves as a case manager as assigned and maintains appropriate case records
Provides psychological counseling to students, parents and staff and, as needed, makes referrals to appropriate community resources
Assists in the development and delivery of in-service programs and parent seminars
Keeps the staff and community informed of the schools’ psychological services
Maintains professional competence through continuing education and other professional growth activities
Observes pupils in classrooms and other school settings
Serves as a consultant to parents, school personnel and community groups on child development and mental health topics
Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies
Performs all duties required as a member of the child study team by administrative code, state and federal laws and board policy
Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or student personnel services director
Enhances the relationships with administration and staff members by communicating effectively, facilitating teamwork that supports department objectives and goals
Monitors and reviews the productivity and provides recommendations to improve the quality and quantity of the district's mental health supports and training opportunities.
Develops rapport with individuals, groups and communities to improve the well-being of students
Encourages students to discuss emotions and experiences
Examines issues including substance abuse, self-regulation, bullying, anger management, careers, depressing, relationships, social skills, self-image stress and suicide
Assists student define goals, plan actions and gain insight
Develops therapeutic processes
Conducts evidenced-based evaluation processes to determine students who are at risk of social, emotional and behavioral difficulties
Takes a holistic (mind and body) approach to the well-being of students
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications:
Certified New Jersey School Counselor
Valid New Jersey Educational Services Certificate and School Counselor Endorsement #2702
MUST pass NJ Criminal History Review Unit fingerprinting requirement
New Jersey State residency requirements for public employees in effect
Terms:
Salary, terms and conditions as per PEA contract
Salary Range: $67,055-$105,594
