JOB SUMMARY:
The Field Supervisor is a fully field-deployed leadership position designed to provide immediate feedback, real-time oversight, and service consistency across transfer stations and job sites. The Field Supervisor travels the region daily in a company-issued pickup truck, maintaining visibility over logistics operations, enforcing company standards, safety compliance, environmental compliance, act as a frontline liaison between field teams and leadership, and oversees all operations at the transfer station(s) they are assigned to.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect heavy equipment to ensure it is working properly.
- Perform regular maintenance on equipment.
- Report any technical or mechanical issues with the equipment.
- Ensure safety guidelines are being followed correctly.
- Distributes the workload to operators to ensure operations run smoothly and without delay.
- Conduct Pre-hire tests with heavy equipment to ensure candidates have the necessary skills to operate machinery.
- Manages and schedules all employees at the designated transfer station(s).
- Makes hiring decisions for operators in the transfer station(s).
- Perform disciplinary action meetings and write up employees when necessary.
- Manage a team of employees that includes Operators, Custodians, and Tarpers.
- Maintain relationships with clients and site managers. Resolve any grievances they may have.
Core Responsibilities & Embedded Metrics
- Daily Site Visits
- Visit 4–6 locations per day, rotating through transfer stations, customer-facing sites, and satellite yards.
- Complete a standardized 12-point inspection checklist at each site (e.g., traffic flow, signage, debris, driver conduct).
- Submit digital summaries via company platform with photos and comments—goal is 98% same-day reporting rate.
- Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Conduct weekly safety audits at each site; ensure compliance with PPE, vehicle procedures, spill protocols.
- Flag and correct noncompliance within 24 hours, escalating to Operations VP if unresolved.
- Weight & Volume Validation
- Randomly audit gross vehicle weight and ticket accuracy—minimum 5 audits per week.
- Maintain a rolling log of discrepancies for KPI tracking and operator performance evaluation.
- Transfer Station Quality Control
- Evaluate transfer station throughout, ingress/egress efficiency, and tipping protocols.
- Identify and report inefficiencies in load cycles, yard congestion, or equipment staging.
- Target: Reduce yard dwell time by 10% quarter-over-quarter.
- Customer Relations
- Conduct routine site check-ins with key customers, especially on high-volume or complaint-prone routes.
- Address minor service issues in real time; provide feedback to internal teams with context and resolution deadline.
- Track customer sentiment trends—goal is net improvement of 1+ satisfaction tier per quarter.
- Training, Morale & Team Communication
- Assess field team conduct, tone, and presentation—report to terminal managers weekly.
- Identify high-potential field staff and recommend ride-along or supervisory training opportunities.
- Participate in bi-weekly crew huddles at rotating sites to reinforce culture and gather frontline feedback.
- Reporting & Strategic Input
- Submit weekly summary reportsincluding:
- Top 3 risks observed.
- Compliance scores by location.
- Operational trends and recommended adjustments.
- Join weekly leadership calls to shape territory-level strategy and training needs.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment machinery (Yellow Iron)
- Knowledge of transfer station operations
- Two years of transfer station experience
- One year of management experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands
This job is in a dynamic environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Intermittently balancing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity. Also requires heavy work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Working Conditions
This role is based primarily outdoors at transfer stations and landfills, where you will be exposed to extreme weather conditions year-round, including intense heat, cold, rain, and wind. The environment is loud, fast-paced, and filled with constant movement of heavy equipment and vehicles. Strong, persistent odors from waste materials are present throughout the workday. Walking surfaces vary and may include gravel, dirt, mud, and concrete, which can be uneven, slippery, or obstructed. Daily tasks will take place in close proximity to trash, debris, and other waste materials, requiring comfort working in a physically demanding and high-activity environment.
