Title: Parenting Coach I
Grade:

Supervised by: Clinical Director
Purpose:
Brigid Collins’s mission is to strengthen community health and resilience by providing comprehensive support to children and their families. The Parenting Coach helps parents and caregivers navigate the challenges and joys of raising children by providing guidance, education, and support in areas like communication, behavior management, and emotional well-being. Using one or more evidence-based parent management training interventions, the Parenting Coach works with parents and caregivers to develop personalized strategies based on family goals, values, and individual circumstances. Parent Coaching supports protective factors as well as provides intervention when families have experienced adverse experiences or children are experiencing behavioral or developmental challenges.
Compensation:
- Salary commensurate with experience and skills. New hires should expect to start at $24.50 per hour.
- Applicants who can demonstrate fluency in a second language such as Spanish or Mixteco will receive a bilingual add-on of an additional $1.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage referrals for appointments, meet with families in the office, in homes and in the community, as appropriate.
- Assess through interview, observation and screenings including completing a comprehensive evaluation of strengths and needs.
- From assessment, make recommendations for evidence-based parent coaching intervention, work with the parent/caregiver to identify goals,
and develop an action plan.
- Provide
evidence-based program specific coaching and teaching sessions to parents/caregivers with their children, support the practice and learning of positive parenting strategies, relationship enhancement, positive development and resiliency.
- Facilitate group seminars and classes to provide education and support to parents/caregivers.
- Collaborate with other professionals and agencies to ensure coordinated services for families.
- Complete
accurate and timely reports on family progress, assessments, and referrals
in accordance with agency policies and ethical guidelines.
- Meet and maintain standards and contract requirements for all evidence-based program quality assurance, improvement and training activities.
- Participate in individual supervision and attend agency mandatory meetings, supervision and required training.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with contractors, referrers, and community partners, supporting with outreach as assigned.
- Assist Manager/Director with planning and implementing special projects or initiatives outside of daily duties.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- If Coordinating Children’s Program, follow duties outlined in SOW for Children’s Program Coordination.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Understanding child development stages, including cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development.
- Knowledge of positive discipline, effective communication strategies, and techniques for managing challenging behaviors.
- Strong active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution skills to build rapport with parents and understand their concerns.
- Understanding of the needs of diverse families and ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approaches.
- Ability to effectively engage with children and parents/caregivers who have experienced adversity and trauma or are at risk.
- Being able to adjust coaching approaches to suit the unique needs of different families.
- Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with parents and other professionals.
- Ability to build rapport and trust with families, and to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to identify and address potential problems or concerns, and to refer families to appropriate resources.
- Ability to manage time effectively, plan and implement parent coaching sessions, and maintain
accurate records.
- Willingness to adjust schedule and flex time to be able to meet with families when their schedules allow.
- Ability to adhere to ethical and confidentiality standards.
- Proficiency in using computers and related software for record-keeping, communication, and accessing information.
- Ability and willingness to work and travel across Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Completed training in at least one evidence-based parenting intervention or ability to complete training within the first 6 months of hire.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish or Mixteco is highly desired but not required.
