Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor in Public Health/Infectious Disease Control within the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM). VMPM provides teaching and research in immunology, infectious diseases, bacterial and viral pathogenesis, host-microbe interactions, vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and public health.

Responsibilities of this 12-month, term-track position include, 60% serving as Director of the Center for Food Security and Public Health whose mission is to increase national and international preparedness for accidental or intentional introduction of diseases that threaten food production or public health through providing online education and resources to stakeholders; 25% providing leadership, education, and operational oversight for infection prevention and biosecurity protocols within the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center, in close collaboration with hospital leadership; and 15% contributing to the infectious disease and public health teaching needs of the VMPM department within the professional veterinary curriculum. The successful candidate will have a unique focus on public health and infectious disease control.
 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

 Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor:

  • A DVM or equivalent degree

  • Advanced training (MS, MPH or PhD) in a discipline related to public health, infectious disease prevention and control, or disciplines related to microbiology

Associate Teaching Professor:

  • 3-5 years of experience in public health education/policy

  • Extramural funding as a principal investigator

  • Experience supervising professional staff
     

Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor:

  • Board certification (prefer ACVPM)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Demonstrated experience with policy and protocol development

  • Evidence of prior grant acquisition

  • Budget management and oversight experience

  • Evidence of teaching experience in infection control/public health

  • Demonstrated experience implementing infection control programs or serving in a biosecurity leadership role in a veterinary hospital or public health setting
