About this job:
We are looking for self-motivated, dedicated engineers who want to make a difference in their communities. The purpose of this position is to assist the Engineer 7 and Engineer 6 with managing the District 58 Bridge Inspection and Maintenance Program. This will include the operation, planning, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fixed and movable bridges and dam structures. This position is located in District 58, Unit 051, and reports to the District 58 Headquarters in Chase, LA.

Position Duties
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties:
- Assist with daily operations of the District 58 Bridge Inspection Program and provide functional supervision over the Bridge Inspection, Maintenance, and Electrician’s units. Check inspection reports for accuracy.
- Designs retrofits for bridge repairs and maintenance, coordinating with the Engineer 6. Assists with the coordination of materials, equipment, labor, press releases, and traffic control plans.
- Conducts final acceptance and inventory inspection of new bridges.
- Assists the Engineer 6 with the District Guardrail Repair contract management, coordinates with the contractor for repairs/replacements, and submits documentation for reimbursable claims.
- Drafts plans and facility sketches, provides cost estimates, determines building specification to meet building codes, and provides innovative engineering design and construction ideas for District facility projects.
- Compiles information for requests made by the public, other agencies, or the media. Checks work performed by contractors and vendors.
- Assists in the design of proposed bridge projects and stage 0 studies. Attend plan-in-hand meetings to discuss project design and development on all types of bridge projects.

The maximum salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256. Engineer Intern 1 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly
Engineer Intern 2 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly
Engineer 3 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly
Engineer 4 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly
Engineer 5 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly
Engineer Intern Applicant – Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineering Intern Certificate
Engineer Intern 1-2 - Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate
Engineer 3-5 Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering
