About the Department
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking a dynamic, marketing professional with a strong background in media and community relations who can provide management and oversight to the public relations team. This position will be the spokesperson for the agency and will work closely with media outlets and partners to disseminate information of significant interest to the public. Prepares media releases, conducts press conferences and organizes and attends special events.
Position Duties
An employee in this classification supervises public relations staff and contractors to articulate goals, missions, and general information to the community. Position is responsible for conducting public interviews, responding to media inquiries, and works with internal and external partners to promote and maintain communications between the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the citizens of Forsyth County and the news media. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation, in conferences, and by review of records and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Sociology, Social Science, Criminal Justice, Journalism/Marketing or related field and at least three years professional experience in communications, counseling, public relations, journalism, law enforcement, advocacy or related field. The preferred candidate will have excellent communication/public speaking skills, the ability to build community relations and have on-camera and/or live interviewing experience.
Other Qualifications
Communicates with employees, community, media, and internal and external partners on matters related to and affecting the Sheriff's Office and Community;
Recommends suggestions to policies, procedures and practices related to public relations;
Evaluates processes and trends to determine best practice methods;
Reviews official communication and maintains accurate records;
Develops written documentation for presentation to the public;
Coordinates special events;
Prepares speeches and speaks publicly on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. Writes reports, business letters, summaries, journals and/or editorials;
Develops and maintains partnerships throughout the community;
Responds to media inquiries;
Conducts research and summarizes data;
Prepares a fiscal budget for the work area, compiles data, makes recommendations, and is responsible for monitoring budget expenditures for the area;
Supervises and monitors work performance of subordinate employees. Writes, conducts and signs performance appraisals. Provides input on hiring, disciplinary actions and work objectives;
Assists and/or leads special projects and activities;
Perform related work as required.
