Under the close supervision of a Weights and Measures Inspector 3 or other supervisory official, in a three-year training program, performs productive work while receiving formal and on-the-job training in the inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices; does other related duties as required.Responsibilities:
Under close supervision, as a trainee and productive worker:Receives instructions.Learns to perform activities to inspect and test all types of weighing and measuring devices using scales, leverage devices, volumetric instruments, and other standard and metric methods to determine accuracy of equipment tested and sealing approved equipment.Learns to inspect and test all types of weighing and measuring devices used to pack commodities, weigh vehicles, dispense gasoline, fuel oil,liquefied petroleum gas, and other petroleum products.Assists in the operation of heavy-duty scale testing units and auxiliary equipment, volumetric meter provers, pharmaceutical and other specialized testing equipment.Learns to investigate routine complaints and recommend proper remedial action to the immediate supervisor.Learns to file issues, solid fuel licenses, records, and other files.Learns to prepare reports of tests, inspections, calibrations, and investigations containing observations, findings, conclusions, recommendations, and actions taken.Learns to collect evidence and develop a case management file against violators of weights and measures statutes/regulations. Learns to work in concert with other law enforcement agencies in the arrest and prosecution of law violators.Learns to testify in civil or criminal court proceedings as a witness for the state concerning violations to the state weights and measures statutes and regulations.Learns to file routine reports on completed inspections.Learns to inspect Weighmasters' applications.Compiles date for reports.Maintains records, reports, and database files.Will be required to leQualifications:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. Appointees may also be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.NOTE: Appointees will be required to successfully complete the Weights and Measures training program conducted by the State Office of Weights & Measures, Department of Law and Public Safety, during the apprenticeship program.Apply Now
