Position Title: Cat Ski Guide
Reports To: Cat Ski Manager
Employment Status: Seasonal; Full time or part time; Winter 25-26
Job Summary:
As a Backcountry Cat Ski Guide, you will lead guests on exhilarating cat-skiing adventures in remote and pristine snow-covered terrain. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring guest safety, managing ski terrain, and providing a memorable backcountry experience. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to delivering top-notch customer service and unforgettable skiing experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely guide groups of skiers and snowboarders through backcountry terrain, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and providing expert instruction.
- Evaluate snowpack, weather conditions, and terrain to make informed decisions regarding safety and route selection.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and execute rescue operations if necessary.
- Provide exceptional customer service, including pre-trip briefings, answering questions, and fostering a positive and engaging experience for all participants.
- Be a steward of the Payette National Forest by educating guests on the surrounding ecology.
- Oversee the maintenance and proper use of backcountry gear and equipment.
- Work closely with other guides and support staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication throughout the day.
- Adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and best practices in all aspects of the job.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher, current CPR certification, and Avalanche Recreation Level 2 or higher.
- Basic proficiency in topographical map reading and navigation software; familiarity with scheduling and communication tools is a plus.
- Must be an expert skier in all conditions (no snowboard guides)
- Previous experience in backcountry skiing, guiding, or a related outdoor adventure role is highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
- Guides must have a clean criminal record to become a licensed guide
- Must have a valid driver’s license and able to pass a motor vehicle records check.
- Must be proficient in and have all the necessary equipment to skin uphill.
- Excellent physical condition and ability to perform strenuous activities at high altitudes.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including cold temperatures, high winds, low visibility, and heavy snowfall.
- Must be able to ski for extended periods, including short bootpacks and challenging terrain.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs.) and assist in emergency situations.
- Capability to navigate uneven and rugged terrain safely and effectively, often in adverse weather conditions.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts depending on operational needs.
