Highlights of your role:

Directs all aspects of Behavioral Health Services provided to outpatients of LifeCare Medical Center. Provides direct behavioral health therapy services. The Masters level (LICSW) social worker must be competent to provide direct therapy care to those persons from preschool, school age, pre-teen, teenage, young adults, middle age adults, old and very old adult ages. The social worker completes evaluations and on-going assessments; develops treatment plans; provides therapy; contacts referral sources and other caregivers; remains knowledgeable of psychiatric medications; identifies significant changes or high-risk situations; completes consults; places follow-up calls; performs utilization review; monitors program effectiveness and provides clinical supervision. Provides patient care, which is appropriate to the patient’s age, diagnosis, symptoms, physician orders and following established policies and procedures.

What you’ll get to do in this role:

Attends Department Director meetings and brings up management issues that affect behavioral health services.

Shares information with Department Directors as appropriate in the areas regarding behavioral health services.

Is responsible for the overall management of behavioral health services provided.

Determines appropriate staffing and scheduling based on the needs of the facility.

Maintains educational/personnel files of directors and staff therapists.

Is responsible for hiring and annual employee evaluations for all members of the behavioral health department.

Develop, maintain, and update annually personnel and clinical manuals for all behavioral health areas.

Supervises all clinical behavioral health functions.

Supervise therapist staff to assure consistency and continuity of services to patients and to assure team approach with medical staff, nursing staff, and all supporting departments.

Overall responsibility for development and management of behavioral health budget and submit to the Senior Leader of Patient Services as requested.

Provide orientation to new departmental employees.  Shall complete and document orientation of new employees according to prepared schedule in the Employee Performance Record Policy.

Provide or arrange mentorship for new employees as needed.

Provide constructive coaching and initiate disciplinary action according to the facility Partnership Guide as needed.

Conducts comprehensive mental health diagnostic assessment upon referral from physician, unit social worker, case management nurse, etc. or outside agencies.

Develops treatment plan based on the diagnostic assessment and reviews assessment information and treatment plan with each patient.

Facilitate implementation of the treatment plan.

Provides individual, couple, family or group therapy to patients and their families using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Review treatment plan as needed.

Contacts referral sources and other caregivers and assures communication and coordination exists regarding patient care.

Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric medications and the ability to recognize common medication reactions and takes appropriate action.

Identifies significant changes or high-risk situations in patient’s condition and takes appropriate actions as evidenced in reporting, consultations and documentation, as well as referring to appropriate agencies for immediate protection.

Completes consults upon request.

Dictates all assessments and progress notes according to standard operating procedure.

Completes all billing procedures according to standard operating procedure.

Places follow-up calls to patients as necessary, i.e. patient complaints, missed appointments, etc.

Present cases for staff consultation as appropriate.

Provide advocacy services as needed to promote “self-determination”.

Monitors program effectiveness by evaluating, initiating, and participating in restructuring of current and new programs.

Provides clinical supervision for therapists according to licensure requirements.

Participates in 24-hour on-call services.

Report data on a quarterly basis to the Performance Improvement Committee.

Direct departmental goals for future Performance Improvement activities.

Develop indicators that will promote improving clinical functions of social work and that show team involvement with other disciplines.

Provide an annual summary of the Behavioral Health Department and Performance Improvement activities.

Develop and present educational programs for other professionals and staff as appropriate in areas of expertise upon request.

Obtains and maintains a working knowledge of state laws and rules that apply to child abuse/neglect, vulnerable adults and the mentally ill.

Is involved in the community as it relates to mental/behavioral health issues. Participates in community education.

Works closely with the local county and social service center and law enforcement agencies.

 

You’re an excellent fit, if you have:

  • Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited school
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) board certified in MN
  • supervisory experience in a behavioral health setting preferred
  • knowledge of community resources, referral processes, and basic management care concepts preferred
  • high level of clinical knowledge for understanding what patients with depression, anxiety, addiction, bipolar, schizophrenia, or other disorders need from their treatment
  • managerial, team-building, critical thinking, and decision making skills
  • analytical skills for interpreting health regulations and applying them in new protocols
