POSITION: Art Teacher LOCATION: Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center (Grades K-2) REPORTS TO: Building Principal CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled
JOB SUMMARY:
The Art Teacher for grades K–2 is responsible for developing and delivering engaging, age-appropriate art instruction that fosters creativity, self-expression, and fine motor development. This educator will design lessons that introduce young learners to various art techniques, materials, and cultural perspectives while integrating cross-curricular learning where appropriate. The Art Teacher promotes a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration and appreciation of the visual arts.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification in elementary art education in the State of Delaware.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Art Education, Fine Arts or related field preferred
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Passion for teaching and dedication to student success
Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and implement creative and developmentally appropriate art lessons tailored to the unique needs of K–2 students.
Introduce students to elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, space, value, form) and principles of design.
Integrate literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts into art projects when appropriate.
Create a structured and nurturing classroom environment that promotes respect, curiosity, and a love for the arts.
Use positive behavior reinforcement and age-appropriate discipline strategies.
Establish clear expectations and routines that support independence and responsibility.
Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and artistic growth.
Maintain student art portfolios or journals for reflection and tracking progress.
Provide written or verbal feedback to students and parents about skill development and participation.
Adapt instruction and materials for students with varying learning styles, abilities, and needs.
Collaborate with special education staff to accommodate students with IEPs or 504 plans.
Partner with classroom teachers and specialists to support interdisciplinary learning.
Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers through newsletters, emails, or school platforms about upcoming projects, events, and student achievements.
Attend parent-teacher conferences, as required, to discuss student progress and behavior.
Organize and maintain art supplies, equipment, and classroom displays.
Track inventory and request or order supplies within budget guidelines.
Ensure proper use and safe handling of tools and materials (e.g., scissors, paints, glue, etc.).
Display student artwork throughout the school to celebrate learning and achievement.
Plan and participate in school-wide art events, exhibitions, or family art nights with other Visual Arts teachers in the district.
Coordinate or assist with a variety of events in the school when art support is needed.
Stay current with best practices in art education and early childhood pedagogy.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service days.
Follow school and district policies regarding student privacy, safety, and mandated reporting.
Teach basic digital art concepts or media when appropriate for the age group.
