We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Consultant to join our Healthy Families program, a leading family support and evidence-based home visiting program. In this hybrid position, you will provide vital mental health consultation and support to staff, ensuring the successful delivery of services to families through voluntary, supportive home visits.

Key Responsibilities:

Reflective Consultation:

  • Provide reflective supervision to staff, meeting monthly with direct service staff and supervisors in person.
  • Conduct initial case reviews to assess whether incoming families are high risk.
  • Address crisis and safety situations as they arise, ensuring proper staff support.
  • Offer shadowing of home visits to model effective interventions when needed.
  • Attend weekly case assignment meetings to ensure seamless coordination and support.

Training:

  • Conduct training sessions at least bi-monthly to address mental health trends and concerns impacting the Healthy Families program.
  • Provide mental health training as requested by home visitors, supervisors, or program management.
  • Monitor and identify trends related to mental health concerns, communicating insights to program management for further action.
  • Participate in evaluating the program’s mental health initiatives and effectiveness.

Documentation and Completion of Required Forms:

  • Review home visiting notes and documentation in preparation for Reflective Consultation.
  • Document your assessment of families’ needs, suggested/planned interventions, and follow-up outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate data entry of activities in the state database, meeting all program requirements.

Requirements

Knowledge

Master’s or Doctorate degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family or related human service field with a current license issued by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Service Licensing Board as one of the following: 

  1. Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  2. Marriage and Family Direct Worker (LMFT)
  3. Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Skills

  • Currently not sponsoring work visa.
  • Requires experience in family assessment and case management.
  • Requires familiarity with community resources and consistent use to meet the needs of clients.
  • Requires proficiency in interviewing skills; listening skills; and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Requires excellent written communication skills and the ability to accurately complete all paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills in independently managing workload and related responsibilities.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills/abilities to relate to people with respect for their individuality and privacy.
  • Requires a non-judgmental attitude and ability to establish quick rapport and trust with families who often have trust issues.
  • Requires a multi-tasking orientation that supports beginning and completing a project or task within a specific period.
  • Requires experience working with culturally diverse communities and families with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Travel may be required. Valid driver’s license required. Mileage Reimbursement provided.

Physical Requirement

  • Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight up to 20-30 pounds is a necessary function of this position.
  • Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours.
  • Will be exposed to all patient elements.
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.
