Salary Range: $25-29 Per Hour, Based on Experience
Job Summary:
While working under the general direction of the Lead Nurse Supervisor and RN school nurse, the LPN provides health care to an assigned student who has been identified with specialized health care concerns and complex medical needs. This includes dispensing medication; implementing specialized health care protocols; Implements specialized health care protocols (e.g. oxygen therapies, tracheostomy suctioning, ostomy care, urethral catheterization, nasal/oral gastric tube feeding, SVN treatments, blood sugar monitoring, etc.) as ordered by a physician. Responds to medical emergencies; treating accidents and illnesses; and serves as a member of a management team to address the academic, social, psychological, and medical needs of students. LPN also documents in EMR and maintains health records according to district policies. LPN may be assigned other responsibilities within the LPN scope by school nurse/nursing supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 care to student with special health care needs or provide care to multiple students in a special education, general education or health office setting
- Ride bus/van with student before and after school and assist getting on and off of bus/van
- Ensure student safety at all times
- Assess and treat illness, manage chronic disease
- Provide emergency care/assessment
- Implement plan of care per individualized health care plans or emergency plan for students requiring nursing services on IEPs and 504s
- Administer medications
- Perform treatments and/or nursing procedures
- Assist with ADLs and hygiene care
- Work collaboratively with the school nurse/nursing supervisor, school staff, families and health care providers/consultants to ensure high quality of care
- Communicates and collaborates with parents on an as needed basis
- Follows district policies and procedures
- Maintains medical records and documents daily on student/s
- Any other responsibilities assigned by school nurse/nursing supervisor
Qualifications:
- Valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts
- Experience in a child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting
- Knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations; awareness of childhood development, including developmental needs related to children with specialized health care concerns;
- Current CPR/AED (BLS) certification
- Ability to provide care and safety to medically complex student/s which may include lifting and diapering/toileting
- Ability to provide emergency care/assessment
- Knowledge of professional and legal requirements
- Human relations skills
- Organizational/administrative skills
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to effectively use local resources
- Computer skills for electronic medical documentation and communication
Additional Requirements:
- Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.
- Ability to work in compliance with federal, state, and district policies and regulations.
- Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.
Work Environment:
- School-based setting with occasional travel for professional development or district meetings.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of medical supplies or students in emergency situations.
- Some travel between classrooms and school buildings may be required.

Compensation and Benefits:
