Hybrid Home Energy Rater (Field Inspector) at Nations Capital Energy Solutions

Nations Capital Energy Solutions, a division of the McCrea family of companies, is hiring a motivated an detail-oriented Home Energy Rater (Field Inspector), to join our growing team in Richmond, VA. This is an entry-level opportunity perfect for someone eager to learn about building science, energy codes, and home performance testing - no prior certification required.

Trainee pay ranges from $18 to $22 per hour, with certified HERS Raters earning $50,000+ per year.

Training and Career Path:

We provide all the tools, training, and mentorship you need to succeed and grow. You’ll work toward becoming a certified RFI and have the opportunity for future advancement.

To become an RFI, you must:

• Complete 3+ mentored ratings under a certified HERS Rater or Candidate Field Assessor

• Pass the RESCAZ Exam

• Pass a Final Graded Field Evaluation

Once certified and with at least one year of experience, employees are eligible for further training and promotional opportunities based on performance and company needs.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct residential energy inspections per RESNET and company standards
• Perform diagnostic testing: blower door, duct leakage, HVAC airflow, etc.
• Prepare detailed reports of inspection findings
• Communicate professionally with builders, contractors and team members
  
• Maintain tools, testing equipment and documentation
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and manufacturer specifications
• Use software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
• Solve problems effectively and stay organized

Physical Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to work in confined, uncomfortable spaces (attics, crawl spaces, etc.)
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted, use ladders, and operate hand/power tools

Requirements:

• RESNET HERS Certification required or ability to acquire certification within a reasonable timeframe.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
• Professional, dependable, and self-motivated
• RESNET HERS Certification is a plus but not required at time of hire
