About the Role:
This position plays a vital role in ensuring the secure and reliable operation of the Wastewater Treatment Division's (WTD) Industrial Control System (ICS) network and the associated business systems that operations and maintenance teams depend on. By maintaining the software, applications, and network infrastructure that support ICS functionality, this role directly contributes to system integrity and service reliability.
Core responsibilities include administering Windows servers and workstations, applying software updates and security patches, supporting Active Directory, and maintaining system configuration and change documentation. The role also involves managing and troubleshooting network infrastructure, supporting application users, coordinating backups, and organizing server room infrastructure to ensure resilient and efficient operations.
Cybersecurity is an integrated aspect of the position, with responsibilities that include monitoring security tools, contributing to disaster recovery planning, and supporting the development of cybersecurity policies and procedures.
To prepare for supporting the Division’s Distributed Control System (DCS) and related ICS platforms, the employee will participate in technical training to build familiarity with system architecture, operations, and support requirements. This foundation ensures they can respond effectively to issues, collaborate with operators and system engineers, and uphold performance and reliability across all supported platforms.
The employee will work across WTD’s three major wastewater treatment facilities, two smaller ones, and additional remote sites throughout King County as needed. They will work with other systems engineers to provide coordinated support and ensure continuity of operations. This hands-on, multi-site role is critical to sustaining system performance, security, and service delivery across a complex regional network.
About the Team:
King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) depends on its systems engineering team to ensure the seamless operation of its Industrial Control System (ICS) across a diverse and geographically distributed network. This team manages resilient digital infrastructure—including workstations, servers, routers, switches, databases, and other technologies—supporting safe and efficient delivery of wastewater services.
With a footprint spanning three major treatment plants, two smaller ones, and nearly 100 offsite facilities, the team provides countywide support for infrastructure reliability, application performance, and cybersecurity initiatives. Their work safeguards ICS environments against emerging threats, ensures system documentation and standards are consistently maintained, and supports reliable operations across all facilities.

Position Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
System Administration: Maintain Windows servers and workstations, troubleshoot Windows server and workstation issues
Install Windows patches, install and upgrade applications, create/update system configuration documentation, and create/update change management documentation
Network Administration: Troubleshoot and resolve network issues. Update switch and router configurations. Create and maintain accurate network drawings. Ensure consistency and organization of network infrastructure documentation and physical connectivity arrangements. Manage server room wiring, arrangement, and labeling
Manage Active Directory users and groups, troubleshoot application issues.
Cybersecurity: Monitor suite of cybersecurity applications and reports. Contribute to the update of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and guidelines. Contribute to the development of disaster recovery (DR) plans, including backup strategies, periodic tests, recovery procedures.
Application Support: Become familiar with the various applications and databases supported by WTD system engineers and provide support to end users on selected applications.
Database Support: Perform light to moderate database management tasks, including querying, data validation, user permissions, and backup coordination.
Industrial Control System (ICS) Support: Provide Operational Technology support for WTD's industrial control system.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications You Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a combination of education, certifications, and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the specified job duties
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices (e.g., access control, vulnerability management, secure configuration)
- Basic experience managing Microsoft SQL Server instances, including routine maintenance, backups, and user access controls
- Experience administering and maintaining Active Directory environments, including user/group management, GPO configuration, and OU structure design
- Demonstrated experience configuring and managing Cisco network infrastructure—including switches, routers, and firewalls—with a solid understanding of core networking protocols such as TCP/IP, routing, and VLANs.
- Proven track record with planning, deploying, and maintaining Microsoft Windows-based servers and workstations and associated hardware
- Experience using system monitoring or log aggregation tools to detect performance issues and potential security events
- Understanding of Operational Technology (OT) environments and how they differ from traditional Information Technology (IT) systems, including awareness of availability and safety requirements, segmentation strategies, and lifecycle management

- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible
