Job Description: As a member of the interdisciplinary team, and under the general direction of the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs. Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group counselling sessions with clients. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement plans to help clients reach their goals. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience in addictions/mental health would be desirable

Education

  • Mental Health & Addictions Counselling Diploma

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Competencies

  • Problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated skills w/ Addiction and Concurrent disorders assessment/counseling

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in best practices in addictions and harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge Transtheoretical Model of Change
  • Knowledge in holistic addictions treatment model
  • Ability to screen for addictions and/or addiction related symptoms
  • Knowledge of how addictions impacts the individual, community and families 
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of screening and addiction assessment tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge in co-current disorders and issues related to gambling addictions
  • Knowledge in group dynamics
