Summary: The main objective of the Community Ambassador is providing translations and interpreting for East Baton Rouge Parish School System and Non-Public families. The Community Ambassador should effectively communicate between home and school and improve the community outreach and academic performance for families who have children in grades Pre-k through 12th grade.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain phone contact and handle correspondence and translating materials between schools, departments, as well as administrator offices.
Provide parents with information on the district’s policy and procedures such as registration, PTA, curriculum, assessment, uniform, discipline etc. as stipulated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System Parent/Student Handbook.
Contact outside community agencies for the purpose of seeking resources and activities that will increase the participation of homeless families in school and parent training opportunities.
Attend any district supported advisory councils or professional development related activities to support students and families.
Provide district and school documents such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, notices, website information, articles, flyers, newsletters, community resources, curriculum resources, technology, food service communications, special education communications designed to inform parents and provide assistance.
Maintain accurate records, translate documents, and interpret information for district families. Maintain the confidentiality of student information and passwords.
Communicate with district families to discuss their children’s educational needs and resources available within the school district and community.
Assist families with registration to eliminate barriers with attendance and student achievement.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences to ensure that parents understand their child’s academic progress and behavior and allow families to convey their concerns to school personnel and maintain open lines of communication.
Facilitate training for parents and families after regular work hours or on the weekends as applicable and appropriate Assist in the organization and participation in campus-based outreach activities, such as curriculum nights, special events, PTA meetings, etc.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Experience:
The Community Ambassador must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university accompanied by three (3) years of professional work experience. Six (6) years experience can be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree. The Ambassador must have experience working with the public and communicating effectively with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds. The Community Ambassador must have his/her own reliable transportation and hold, or have the ability to obtain, a Valid Louisiana Driver’s License.

Technological Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.
