Position Title:l Instructional Assistant
Reports To: Classroom Teacher and School Leadership
Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month
Position Overview
College Achieve Public Schools in Plainfield seeks dedicated and energetic Instructional Assistants to support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment. The Instructional Assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher to assist with instructional activities, provide targeted student support, and ensure that the classroom operates efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
Assist the classroom teacher in delivering lessons across core subjects (Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies).
Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
Engage students in activities that promote critical thinking, creativity, and academic growth.
Monitor and support students with special needs in accordance with their individual learning plans.
Classroom & Student Supervision
Prepare classroom materials and the learning environment to ensure readiness for instruction.
Supervise students proactively to maintain safety and promote positive behavior.
Support classroom management strategies as directed by the teacher.
Clerical & Administrative Assistance
Assist with grading, preparing reports, and other instructional paperwork.
Perform clerical duties such as organizing materials, photocopying, and maintaining records.
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate effectively with the teacher, school staff, and students to support the instructional program.
Participate in professional development sessions as required.
Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or equivalent training and either 60 college credits or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
Preferred: NJ Substitute Teacher Certificate.
Prior experience working in a classroom or educational setting preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
Patient, adaptable, and committed to student success.
Physical ability to stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $32,000 – $40,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
