We are seeking a driven and capable Buyer to take responsibility for the sourcing, procurement, and supply management of preliminary pipes and hoses. This role supports the development and production of our advanced powertrain systems, including coolant pipes, fuel lines, oil pipes, air intake hoses, and vacuum lines. Working closely with Engineering, Quality, and Material control teams, the Buyer will ensure timely, cost-effective supply while maintaining the performance, quality, and durability required for GMA’s vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure a range of metal and composite pipes, rubber/silicone hoses, and fluid transfer assemblies for powertrain and chassis applications.
- Lead supplier selection processes in collaboration with Engineering and Quality teams.
- Develop and manage relationships with suppliers ensuring competitive cost, reliable delivery, and quality assurance.
- Negotiate contract terms and initiate contract signing.
- Execute RFQs, negotiate commercial terms, and drive cost savings without compromising quality or delivery.
- Manage supplier performance using KPIs (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Responsiveness).
- Ensure alignment of commercial terms with project cost targets and sourcing strategies.
- Collaborate closely with engineering on technical specifications, design changes, and feasibility assessments.
- Support prototype and production build schedules by securing on-time delivery of parts.
- Drive early supplier involvement to support design-to-cost initiatives.
- Coordinate with logistics and material controllers to ensure efficient inbound flow of components.
- Identify and mitigate supply risks, including logistics disruptions and capacity constraints.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage PO delivery schedules in line with project milestones.
- Maintain accurate supplier and order data within GMA’s MRP systems.
- Support creation and upkeep of commodity strategies, supplier risk assessments, and sourcing plans.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 3+ years’ experience in a purchasing role within mechanical engineering or technical industries like automotive, motorsport, or aerospace environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex bespoke assemblies.
- Skilled in cost breakdown analysis, commercial negotiation, and supply risk mitigation.
- Comfortable interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and material standards.
- ERP/MRP proficiency (IFS ideally).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
