The Sr. Food Scientist will fulfill Research & Development projects for Crumbl under the direction of the VP of Menu. This individual will execute daily tasks meant to elevate current recipes or bring new concepts to life — including but not limited to Desserts, New Products, Optimized Processes, and Special Projects. This individual will have full ownership of our Ingredients Program, including ingredient assessment, testing, approvals, and application. They will work closely with Menu Leadership teams to provide knowledge and insight in their respective field of expertise. They will apply technical knowledge, exceptional creativity, and a results-driven mindset to lead the formulation and optimization of proprietary recipes that elevate our product portfolio. This role requires a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage projects independently from concept through commercialization.
Requirements
Collaborate closely with internal teams and external vendors to create unique, market-differentiated products, including the development of proprietary formulas.
Partner with suppliers and co-manufacturers to ensure product integrity, scalability, and consistent quality from prototype to full-scale production
Reformulate and refine existing recipes or formulas to meet strategic objectives, aligning with quality, cost, and operational targets.
Lead multiple development projects simultaneously, from ideation to launch, managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication.
Expert understanding of ingredient formulations and functionality
Fulfills upon high-level objectives, projects, and assignments as they are directed by the VP of Menu.
Has the ability to take initiative with new innovations.
Participates and assists as needed alongside the Director of R&D
Follows food safety in all applications of recipes, documenting times, temperatures, and procedures.
Creates and implements organized processes as they relate to recipe development, ingredient approvals, and new product development.
Has ownership of all national and international Ingredients, including but not limited to, ingredient approvals, timely ingredient cross-team comms, and ingredient testing.
Works alongside Menu Leadership to plan and procure ingredients for International Testing onsite visits.
Works closely with the Procurement Team on ingredient assessment and approvals.
Responsible for personal project management and ownership of overall requested deliverables.
Is able to travel for work in order to support all aforementioned job requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Culinary Science, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in pastry and/or QSR product development.
Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, product formulation, and process scalability.
Proven ability to independently initiate, manage, and complete complex projects.
Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Vendor management experience with a track record of delivering proprietary solutions.
Highly self-motivated, resourceful, and results-oriented.
Creative problem-solver with a scientific mindset.
Adaptable to evolving business priorities and timelines.
