HOURS
Approximately 35 hours per week Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 3:30pm. This is a part-time position scheduled to work from mid/late August through late May/early June). Pay scale starts at $17.00 per hour and includes free fitness membership and other program discounts.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher's Assistant will team with the Teacher to create a nurturing environment that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive development for each student ranging in age from 4-5. The Teacher's Assistant will provide aide to individual students and assist the Teacher in all aspects of the program. They will provide quality customer service to the families, park patrons, and Park District staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Assist in maintaining required staff and student files, attendance records, and general forms needed to operate the facility in compliance with Park District standards.
• Foster a community with open and frequent communication.
• Assist with the ordering and purchasing of classroom supplies and equipment.
• Participate in all monthly teacher meetings, trainings, and workshops.
• Act as a mentor and role model for students and Park District staff.
• Assist in the management of classroom behaviors and transitions through redirection.
• Assist in adapting teacher instruction, scheduling, and the classroom environment to meet the varying needs, interests, and learning styles.
• Assist with the implementation and leading of lessons/activities that promote age appropriate growth.
• Communicate with parents and supervisor regularly via email, phone, in-person, etc.
• Assist with the upkeep of school displays and classroom set-up.
• Assist with observing, evaluating, and documenting student growth through personal portfolios and individual assessments.
• Work effectively with internal and external customers recognize diverse opinions and needs, and maintain a positive working relationship with employees.
• Properly maintain building materials and facility cleanliness.
• Assist in creating a nurturing classroom culture through play, hands-on activities, student directed learning, modeling, teacher self-talk, and constant adult-child interaction.
• Ensure that regular safety inspections/evacuation drills are performed and that all risk management practices are in compliance with Park District safety rules and procedures.?
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
• Assist when needed with special projects, programs, events, or family nights.
• Assist with the organization and planning of field trips, family nights, and school celebrations.
• Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
The qualified candidate will have minimum 20 hours of college credit with 6 hours of early childhood education and recommended one years work experience in a child care setting, or any combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Possession of or ability to obtain CPR, AED and first aid certification within 1 month of date of hire.
• Demonstrated maturity, reliability, initiative and responsibility.
• Ability to provide excellent guest service and the ability to positively interact with guests on a daily basis.
• Ability to multi-task many variable duties and responsibilities
• Experience working with children in day care, preschool, or recreation setting.
• Knowledge of age appropriate activities and child development.
• Ability to take initiative and problem solve.
• Flexibility to assist with the physical set up and take down of programs.
• Employee must possess the ability to follow directions, communicate verbally and in writing.
• Employee must possess good organization skills and the ability to read and understand printed material.
• Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position.
• Employee must maintain a positive working relationship with, co-workers and the general public.
SUPERVISION
Under the general direction of the Early Childhood Director, the individual must be self-motivated and capable of initiating and developing tasks on a regular basis. The individual will perform projects as assigned by the Director. The employee is responsible for prioritizing work tasks, and for identifying and utilizing the appropriate resources to resolve a problem or situation and/or research and analyze specific data. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
