Position Overview
Aitkin Public Schools has an opening for a Full-Time School Age Care Assistant for the 2024–2025 school year.
This individual is responsible for providing care and supervision of students in the Wrap-around preschool program and after-school childcare for children ages 4–12 at Rippleside Elementary School.
Essential Functions
Provides childcare services for youth in preschool through 6th grade.
Assists preschool teacher or SAC Supervisor with students’ academic, physical, and behavioral needs; implements Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals when needed.
Works with individuals or small groups to create social-based learning experiences.
Performs daily meal preparations, such as breakfast/lunch logistics, as well as assisting with meals and cleaning up afterward.
Performs various office and clerical tasks for Kids Club, including but not limited to attendance tracking, behavior reporting, and supply tracking.
Creates fun and educational programs for youth during the day.
Assists students in preparing to go outdoors and supervises playground activities.
Reports student problems to the SAC Supervisor and assists with student concerns.
Assists students with basic needs, including but not limited to toileting, handwashing, and activities of daily living.
Assists with non-instructional duties including cleaning, copying, posting of bulletin boards, etc.
General Definition of Work
Performs childcare and learning opportunities for youth ages 3–12. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the School Age Care (SAC) Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of classroom teaching practices, methods, and techniques; general knowledge of basic math; some knowledge of academic subjects.
Skill in using classroom and instructional equipment; skill using standard special education lift and transport equipment.
Ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports.
Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers.
Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and the general public.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force;

Compensation
Hourly rate based on the Wrap-Around Care/School Age Care Assistant pay schedule.
Program Aid rate applies to individuals without a high school diploma.
Seniority or steps on the salary schedule in another position do not apply to this role.
