Overview:

Support the Facilities Engineering department by performing a variety of mechanical, plumbing and electrical functions such as corrective, scheduled, and preventative maintenance on utility equipment including air compressors, HVAC units, piping, chillers, cooling towers, generators, etc., including facility related preventative maintenance activities and response to service tickets and work requests.

Pay: $29.93 - $37.89 per hour | 30 month wage progression

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect utility equipment and facility issues to locate potential malfunctions, wear, misalignment, defective parts and deterioration. Dismantle machines and equipment to gain access to problem area to determine issue and perform the repair using hand tools and power tools following blueprints, diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components of utility generation equipment such as air compressors, compressed air dryers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers and HVAC systems.  
  • Perform repairs on facility equipment such as overhead doors and controls, personnel entry doors, dock doors including controls, levellers and pit bulls.
  • Follow blueprints and specifications; use hand tools and power tools and precision measuring equipment to perform maintenance functions with good workmanship.
  • Repair broken metal parts, using cutting, brazing, soldering, and welding equipment, grinders and hand tools.
  • Respond to work requests and service calls as directed performing a variety of tasks that support the organization.
  • Perform daily inspections for doors, site lights, and substation checklists.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts, and specifications in the performance of the duties to ensure system integrity is maintained.
  • Assist Facilities Engineering Specialists and Management with project support by providing troubleshooting, applying knowledge, providing sketches or computer-generated designs of machine/facility components.
  • Set-up and operate metal working tools such as lathe, drill press, or grinder to make repair parts.
  • Start machines and equipment to test operation following repair and supporting the safety equipment turnover process.
  • Operate various powered equipment according to HMMA standards.
  • Position requires job rotation between different shifts and maintenance jobs within the plant.
  • Position requires the ability to work overtime in excess of 40 hours per week
  • Administer, coordinate, and comply with all Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
  • Meet all other requirements as assigned.

Requirements/Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 year Technical Degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Electricity, or Industrial Electronics preferred
  • 1 – 3 years job related experience desired including any combination of skills, experience, or specialized education or training in the following (multi-skilled preferred): Electricity & electrical application; HVAC systems, programmable logic controls (PLC); heating, A/C, ventilation & refrigeration; plumbing & pipefitting; welding; pneumatics; mechanical systems; machine tool practices; industrial machinery; hydraulics; schematics; knowledge of construction, and facility building systems.

Additional Information:

Position may require occasional travel (domestic or foreign). Flexibility in working hours to include weekends, holidays, and off shift. Position may require on-call duty or overtime due to overall responsibility.
