**This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan/Merit Promotion procedures. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** The purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, and community outreach in supporting a comprehensive community health nursing program for the Indian Health Service, Jicarilla Service Unit, Dulce, New Mexico. Assesses the health needs of individuals, families, and the community; developing plans of care taking into account all demographic, elements, resources available (i.e., Family, the home, and in the community, environment including such considerations as educational level, income level, sanitary practices and hygiene conditions, psychological adjustment and resources. Interprets tests previously administered. Evaluates these facts as they relate to each other, to the patient, to the family, and to the community. Identifies nursing service needs, the incumbent takes into account the location and availability of services at health clinics, nursing homes, and hospitals. Recognizes symptoms that indicate the early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems and other needs for medical care of all family members, for recording the details of such cases, and for referring them for medical follow up. Helps the patient and/or family understand the need for medical attention and treatment; including administering medications; directing rehabilitative activities; counseling and teaching in relation to the patient's condition. Tracks community health status, evaluates health trends and risk factors of population groups. Collects data in a systematic and organized manner, i.e., demographic, immunization and analyzes the collected assessment data. Partners with community leaders to evaluate the data, and determine opportunities and needs for the future. Collaborates in the development and use of health policies and plans that support the individuals, families, and the community health efforts. Consults, advises, and collaborates with individuals, families, communities, and local, state, and Federal systems. Helps to determine the priorities for the targeted interventions. Recommends interventions to mobilize resources for action. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience in applying nursing theory and public health science to preserving and promoting the health of the population with the nature of the practice being continuous and comprehensive; development and implementation of needed health services in the community to address the well-being of the population and serving as an advocate and facilitating change; Provision of public health program activities which are based on the community needs, program resources, and establishing goals and objectives; and, identification of vulnerable groups in a community by assessing the needs of the population and tailoring services to the special needs of high risk groups. OR, possess a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Other Information
