What You Will Be Doing

The Division of Motor Vehicles is a motivated, organized, innovative individual to join our team as a Motor Vehicle Customer Service Rep. II. We are looking for an applicant who thrives in a fast-paced environment to be a part of the DMV public service team examining documentation presented for required information and validity to ensure you are issuing them the proper credential or vehicle information. As an MVCSR II you will interact directly with the public often times explaining policies, statutes and regulations as well as administer road examinations for non-commercial, commercial and motorcycle licenses.

The Working Environment You Can Expect 

The position is located at the Haines DMV 259 Main Street Suite 16 Haines AK 99827. The MVCSR 2 will be assigned to a work station in the public service lobby and will typically rotate weekly between processing customers in the lobby and administering road exams based on business needs . The hours are 08:30- 5:00 Monday through Friday with overtime opportunities.

  • Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Position Duties

Six months of experience licensing, titling, and registering motor vehicles, maintaining driver records, collecting motor vehicle registration taxes, and processing license actions required by traffic laws, financial responsibility and mandatory insurance laws, and judicial suspensions or revocations. This experience is met by service as a Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Six months of employment experience as a driving instructor teaching the safe operation of motor vehicles, which included riding with trainees during practice in common traffic situations.
OR
One year of employment experience performing advanced clerical duties that included significant contact with the public to provide information and assistance concerning the services offered; explaining regulations and varying procedures for different situations; maintaining computerized records; and some purchasing, accounting, or cash handling tasks.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience. (Three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month.)

Special Note:
A background check of criminal justice information will be conducted upon initial employment.

Possession of a valid Alaska non-commercial driver license is required.
