Assist students and staff to ensure the facility is prepared for instructional events
Complete tasks assigned under Essential Functions
Essential Functions:
Keeps buildings and premises clean, safe and neat
Notifies appropriate personnel of need to secure additional supplies, equipment failure or missing equipment and any needed repairs or building maintenance concerns
Sweeps and wet mops main lobby as needed and dusts, dry or wet mops, spot cleans, vacuums, removes trash and debris, changes light bulbs, clean boards and disinfects areas
Performs groundskeeping duties as assigned
Checks hallway walls, restrooms, lockers and removes all graffiti daily
Inspects grounds for debris daily and empties outdoor trash receptacles as needed
Cleans and disinfects fountains
Checks lobby, office glass and showcases daily and cleans all surfaces as needed
Prepares the cafeteria daily to include setting up tables, taking out garbage in the cafeteria and kitchen during lunches, assisting lunchroom aides as needed and cleaning and mopping of cafeteria
Arranges designated facilities for all assemblies, programs and plays during the school day, including seating, lighting, audio-visual equipment
Responsible for summer cleaning, including stripping and waxing floors in assigned areas
Cleaning of all assigned areas, including lights, washing walls and cleaning faculty refrigerators
Removes leaves, snow and spreads ice melt
Responds to emergency situations, vandalism, power failures, storm damage and water pipe failures
Performs all work in a professional, timely and safe manner
Maintains tools and equipment in a safe and operating condition
Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds or Superintendent

Equipment: Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required.
Work Experience: Custodial experience required, preferably in a school setting. One year or more experience in the direction and supervision of custodial personnel is preferred.
