JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Remedial Assistant - English Language Development (ELD)
Organizational / Labor Relationship: None
Status (FLSA): 10 month position, non-exempt, hourly
Reporting Relationships: Ascending – Principal; descending - none
Position Summary: The Remedial Assistant works at the specific direction of the professional staff in providing remedial students with supportive and supplemental instructional assistance in the area of reading and mathematics. The Remedial Assistant is not a professional employee as defined by the Pennsylvania School Code.
Education: Associates Degree required. Bachelors’ degree and teaching credentials preferred.
Experience:
Some experience in working with school-age children
Work experience in public schools preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Possesses a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at all times
Can independently travel between locations in the East Penn School District without public transportation
Ability to independently read, write, speak and listen in the English language commensurate with normal expectations of a paraprofessional
Bi-lingual preferred
Essential Functions / Duties / Responsibilities
Provide supplemental instructional assistance for students through the review and reinforcement of reading and mathematics skills
Attend all scheduled Remedial Assistant meetings
Complete all Remedial Assistant Federal paperwork if applicable
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas
Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support
