We’re looking for a motivated and detail-driven Assistant VAT Accountant to join our finance team in Didsbury. This full-time, permanent role is ideal for someone currently studying or part-qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) who’s keen to develop their VAT experience in a supportive and collaborative setting.
As part of our recruitment process, please note that initial Teams interviews are planned for the first week of September due to the holiday period.
Key Responsibilities
- The preparation, validation and submission of Greenergy’s monthly and quarterly UK and European VAT reports including Intrastat and ESCL, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations
- Reconciling monthly UK/European VAT balance sheet accounts, maintaining accuracy and completeness of VAT accounting within the general ledger, in accordance with the business timetable
- Implementing appropriate actions to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with any changes in legislation or business activities (e.g. new territories/registrations)
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with all VAT stakeholders
- Developing and implementing continuous improvement plans to enhance quality and efficiency
- Assisting with additional VAT-related tasks and responding to audit and business queries as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Currently studying or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills and logical approach to new challenges
- Able to analyse and interpret large volumes of financial data and connect insights to business issues
- Strong communicator with the ability to develop trusting and credible relationships at all levels of the business and across various teams
- Inquisitive and questioning mindset - not afraid to ask questions or challenge convention, and drive improvements and efficiencies as appropriate
- Takes personal responsibility for their work by staying up to date with relevant changes and applying them promptly, while consistently demonstrating initiative and drive
- Flexible and adaptable, understands overall team goals, and actively contributes to achieving them
- Prior experience with VAT across multiple currencies
