Under direct supervision and working interdependently with physicians, advanced practitioners, and other care team members, the Pediatric Hematology Clinical Coordinator is a key clinical team member responsible for ensuring seamless, high-quality care for pediatric patients with benign hematologic conditions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and review patient charts prior to scheduled visits to ensure all necessary documentation, prior labs, imaging, and consult notes are available and accurately filed for the physician.
  • Place, verify, and reconcile laboratory and diagnostic test orders within the EMR in accordance with provider directives or standing protocols.
  • Follow up on pending lab results and diagnostic studies, promptly flagging any critical values or abnormalities to the appropriate provider for review and further instructions.
  • Communicate lab and test results, under physician direction, to patients and families in a timely, clear, and compassionate manner; provide basic interpretation, reinforce provider guidance, and document all communications appropriately.
  • Coordinate and facilitate patient care plans across multiple settings, including but not limited to follow-up scheduling, referrals to subspecialists, diagnostic imaging, infusion services, and transitions to adult care where applicable.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and families with clinical questions between visits, triaging concerns, and collaborating with providers to ensure timely, accurate responses.
  • Support MAs and phlebotomists during peak clinic hours or staff shortages by obtaining vital signs, assisting with intake procedures, performing venipuncture and blood draws, and managing specimen labeling and transport.
  • Participate in regular team huddles and interdisciplinary meetings to review complex cases, streamline clinic flow, and optimize patient care delivery.
  • Monitor incoming patient messages, provider in-basket items, and outstanding tasks within the EMR to ensure prompt attention and resolution.
  • Stay current with evidence-based nursing practices, professional standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to pediatric hematology care.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times when handling patient information, internal communications, and medical records.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented approach by actively contributing to a positive clinic environment and supporting colleagues across clinical and administrative functions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current LPN license in the state of Florida.
  • BLS and PALS certification required (may be obtained within first 90 days of work).
  • Two to four years related experience or equivalent. 
  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols. 
  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline. 
  • Strong charting/documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
