Here is what you will need:
- Education: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program.
- Certificates: Active certification with ARDMS. Current compliance with CME requirements.
- Professional Experience: Breast Ultrasound and Diagnostic Procedure experience preferred.
A Day in the Life of a Diagnostic Sonographer:
- Produces high-quality ultrasound images and obtain appropriate measurements for each exam.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and scanning technique.
- Communicates with the radiologist and understands and performs any necessary additional exams.
- Documents all applicable patient and procedure data consistently and correctly.
- Explains procedures adequately to patients to maximize patient comfort and cooperation.
- Appropriate monitoring during all phases of the procedure with special care taken to ensure patient emotional and physical well-being.
- Assist and/or chaperones radiologist when they are performing ultrasound exams.
- Assists radiologists during ultrasound biopsy procedures using appropriate sterile technique and universal precautions.
- Communicates patient information in a professional and courteous manner to patients and to referring physicians’ offices as required.
- Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and ensures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety.
- Maintains a good working relationship with Radiologists and other Center staff members.
