Additional Information: Show/Hide General Definition of Work Responsible for planning and implementing daily classroom lesson plans and assuring safety of children in the preschool classroom. Work is performed under the general direction of the Principal.

Essential Functions
Teaching children about core concepts, such as numbers, letters, shapes, and colors.
Using creative, hands-on methods of learning, such as artistic expression, free play, and storytelling.
Planning a curriculum that addresses early childhood education requirements.
Encouraging and monitoring social interactions between children.
Instilling a sense of respect and discipline, so that children work effectively in a classroom setting.
Making sure that the classroom is clean, safe, and well-organized.
Setting up the materials and workspaces required for class activities.
Communicating with parents to learn more about each child's life outside the classroom.
Collects and records data; analyzes results, prepares related paperwork and reports.
Participates in meetings; communicates with colleagues and parents.
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment; reports incidents (e.g. acts of aggression, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, bullying behavior, harassment).
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or reporting to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Follows federal, state, and division policies in regard to IDEA implementation and Multi-Tier Instructional Plan.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the subject(s) taught; thorough knowledge of early childhood education principles, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree with coursework in education, or related field and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Teaching License from the Commonwealth of Virginia with an appropriate PreK endorsement.
Physical Requirements This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking, reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operating machines, and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
