POSITION SUMMARY The Technology (IT) Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the daily operations, management, and strategic oversight of the District’s core technology infrastructure. This position holds full ownership and accountability for the administration, performance, security, and reliability of the District’s enterprise-grade network and critical systems across their entire lifecycle. This role provides leadership and direction for all infrastructure initiatives and supervises and delegates tasks to a small team of engineers and technicians. As the central authority entrusted with maintaining optimal system functionality and security, this role requires a proactive approach and a commitment to ensuring uninterrupted technology services across the District.
SPHERE AND SCOPE OF INFLUENCE Under the direction of the Manager of Technology Service Operations, this position’s influence is District-wide and may affect every location/building through timely planning, discussions with customers, execution of services requested by supporting customers, and the creation/maintenance of appropriate support documentation. The position may have contact with all levels of District staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Ensure high reliability and performance of the District’s critical infrastructure by analyzing trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and promptly responding to disruptions or security alerts.
Provide hands-on technical leadership and administration of the District’s server and storage solutions, including on-prem data centers and appliances, physical and virtual servers (Windows Server), and virtualization and hyper-converged platforms.
Oversee the administration of the District’s enterprise network, including switches, routing protocols, firewalls, wired and wireless networking (Aruba), and the District’s private fiber optic network.
Implement and enforce IT security policies, cybersecurity practices, and review alerts to ensure the safety and stability of the network and server environments, including after business hours (as needed).
Supervise, mentor, and offer professional development for systems engineers and network technicians while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Direct the District’s endpoint management strategy, including SCCM to Intune migrations, endpoint protection monitoring, and imaging, patching, and software deployment strategies.
Manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and partners; oversee related contracts, software licensing, and service level agreements.
MARGINAL DUTIES
Identify professional development and growth opportunities for team members.
Provide recommendations for data center operations, including power, cooling, and hardware.
Provide requirements and evaluation criteria for RFB/RFPs related to infrastructure purchases.
Attend industry events and participate in regional, state, and national organizations related to both K-12 education and private sector IT.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly responsible for supervision of the Technology Infrastructure team, including all levels of Systems Engineers and Network Technicians. Supervision includes the full range of supervisory and managerial authority over assigned subordinates.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Manager of Technology Service Operations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
A minimum of four (4) years of progressive, hands-on experience in an enterprise IT environment, with a strong foundation in systems engineering, network administration, and server management.
Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership role is preferred.
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, MCSE, Security+) are preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure projects, IT governance frameworks, change control processes, incident response (IR) and disaster recovery (DR) planning is preferred.
Attention to detail, and ability to analyze and resolve technical problems.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Self-starter, motivated, empathetic, creative, flexible, deadline-oriented, and able to multitask.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Minimal, however, occasionally lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls up to 70 lbs., stoops, kneels, crouches, climbs, balances, crawls, and reaches. Mobility to travel throughout the district.
MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly both oral and written.
LOCATION & HOURS This is a salaried, exempt, full-time position, with an expected 40 hours per week spent on site (in office) during regular business hours. Occasional work outside of regular business hours or on weekends may be required.
