The Senior Engineer, Facilities undertakes project management of capital projects, maintenance and service activities. The Senior Engineer, Facilities executes an assigned portion of the Capital Program and Facilities Expense Program. They support the business as a subject matter expert and provide technical support and direction in their area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Safety Oversight
- Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures across all project phases
- Promote a culture of safety among all stakeholders
- Maintain ultimate accountability for safety performance
- Project Development & Initiation
- Develop and manage annual project budgets
- Validate and prioritize incoming business requests
- Align project goals with stakeholder expectations
- Secure project approvals and prepare IRC submissions
- Conduct detailed cost estimates and communicate plans effectively
- Planning
- Manage engineering consultants and vendor relationships
- Oversee procurement of goods and services
- Coordinate site access and minimize business disruption
- Facilitate communication and stakeholder engagement
- Execution
- Lead project mobilization and execution activities
- Monitor progress and ensure resource availability
- Maintain consistent communication and enforce safety standards
- Monitoring & Controlling
- Track financial performance and validate milestones
- Continuously assess project health across all categories
- Close-out
- Manage documentation and ensure proper project file control
- Finalize financials and oversee asset handover
- Plan for preventative maintenance and communicate with stakeholders
- Document Control
- Maintain Facility Information Center resources and SharePoint files
- Apply policies and procedures to ensure accurate documentation
- Oversee comprehensive project file management
- Engineering & Subject Matter Expertise
- Develop project concepts and designs
- Conduct engineering reviews and manage consultants
- Provide expert guidance on codes, standards, and best practices
- Advise on feasibility and technical solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred), Professional Engineer designation registered with Engineers Nova Scotia;
- Project Management Professional considered an asset;
- 8 - 10+ years of experience demonstrating a high level of competence / expertise / training in project-centric environments (e.g. industrial construction)
- Strong Technical Knowledge in the following areas: · Industrial ventilation systems · Commercial HVAC systems · Industrial gas systems · Building Automation Systems
- Cultivated drafting skills and knowledge of technical drawings
- Proven history and track record of Construction Management (successful delivery of capital projects, on schedule + budget)
- Strong Engineering Design Management capabilities (analysis, design, review etc.)
