The General Maintenance Licensed Plumber position is located at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and reports to the Director of Operations, Facilities Maintenance Department. A Licensed Plumber installs, maintains, and repairs water, gas, and waste piping systems and fixtures in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. is a skilled tradesperson in charge of installing, inspecting, and repairing pipes and plumbing systems to make sure all of a building’s fixtures operate correctly. Their duties include finding the source of leaks and blockages, fixing or replacing broken parts, and testing the plumbing system.


SALARY


The salary compensation for the General Maintenance Licensed Plumber is commensurate with the skills, knowledge, and expertise of the selected applicant.  Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision, and life insurance, as well as dental coverage and participation in the Louisiana Sheriff’s Pension Fund. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Primary Job Duties & Functions:


    Carry out regular maintenance of plumbing systems at OPSO/Civil

    operational sites.

    Installs fixtures and appliances like toilets and dishwashers, diagnosing and clearing clogs, testing for leaks, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.

    Install plumbing systems at all OPSO/Civil properties.

    Inspect previously installed plumbing systems at all OPSO/Civil sites.

    Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures (such as sinks, toilets, and water heaters) in commercial and residential structures.

    Collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other professionals during construction.

    Perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems, identifying and diagnosing plumbing problems using appropriate tools and techniques.

    Completes light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling, and electrical work as required.

    Prepare client bids, budgets, and cost estimates.

    Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used.

    Adhere to all plumbing building codes and regulations.

    Ensure all work meets safety standards and follows best practices.

    Perform any necessary repairs to previously installed systems

    Answer calls for plumbing issues from maintenance and OPSO personnel

    Keep up to date with current safety regulations and requirements for the various plumbing systems.

    Work carefully to follow all current regulations for plumbing work to ensure that all installed systems pass inspections.

    Manage a work log.

    Keep detailed reports of work done at the various sites.

    Provide plumbing system upkeep to maintenance and OPSO/Civil

Personnel.


Requirements:

    Strong understanding of plumbing systems, including water supply and drainage.

    Knowledge of local building plumbing codes and regulations.

    Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose plumbing challenges accordingly.

    Communication and intrapersonal skills, including customer service.

    Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

    Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

    Familiarity with the intricacies of working with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper.

    Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Proficiency in basic mathematics and measurement conversion.

Education and Requirements:

    High school diploma or GED certificate

    State plumbing license

    Journeyman or Master Plumber license

    1-3 years’ experience as a journeyman plumber

    Valid driver’s license
