TITLE: VAN DRIVER
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Ohio driver’s license with proper endorsements as required
Clean driving record; satisfactory driving history report.
Successful completion of federal and state background checks
Medical clearance via Ohio T-8 physical
Completion of Ohio preservice training for van drivers, including classroom and behind-the-wheel sessions
Ability to pass and maintain records of required training, drug screening, and ongoing medical exams.
Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL: To ensure the safe, timely, and courteous transportation of students in accordance with all applicable state laws, district policies, and safety standards. The Van Driver supports student success by providing a reliable and respectful transportation experience that promotes a positive start and end to each school day.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely operate a passenger van (factory-built for ≤9 passengers, signage included) .
Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections; coordinate semi-annual mechanical inspections.
Follow designated routes and schedules; maintain on-time performance.
Identify and establish a designated “place of safety” for student pick-ups/drop-offs and account for all pupils before moving.
Monitor student behavior and enforce safe conduct.
Document and report any incidents, mechanical issues, or route changes.
Maintain accurate trip logs, inspection forms, and T8 physical records.
Participate in required training, recertification, and refresher courses.
Collaborate with school staff, transportation supervisors, and parents as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of contract.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
Excellent observation and communication skills
May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
Frequent evening and/or weekend work
