The Genomics Platform is dedicated to solving the world’s most challenging biomedical problems through the continuous development and investment in cutting edge technology and large-scale research projects that are both challenging and complex.In support of continually changing initiatives, the Process Development Technician (PDT) is committed to carrying out innovative, high-throughput lab processes and may support diagnostic testing. Process Development Technicians (PDT) are responsible for processing samples through a high throughput diagnostics laboratory and to meet production goals. PDTs will function as the regulatory equivalent of clinical laboratory technical personnel (i.e. technicians). PDTs will perform clinical laboratory procedures commensurate with their education, training, and technical abilities under the direct supervision of supervisors and qualified technologists (i.e. Product Development Associates). .Responsibilities may include sample accessioning into laboratory management system, sample preparation and transfer, and support of the laboratory processes that lead to RNA extraction and qPCR.Requirements:BS/BA degree in Biology or Chemistry. Please be prepared to provide a copy of the diploma and transcripts upon request.Working, solid knowledge of primary biological and laboratory science principles required.Recent (within the last year) undergraduate or entry level laboratory experience with the use of standard lab equipment such as pipettes and centrifuges requiredExperience with laboratory automation preferred.Data accessioning experience preferredStrong analytical skills, problem solving ability, and innovation aptitude required.Some experience with statistical analysis is preferred.Working knowledge of computers, databases, and working in a Windows/Mac environment required.Must have strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and strong organizational skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team required.Must thrive in a fast-paced environment.Job Responsibilities:Follow standard operating proceduresEach individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training, experience, and technical abilities.Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results. Correct the problems according to procedures or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.The Broad Institute will not offer visa sponsorship for this opportunity.
