Description: Special education paraprofessionals assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Paraprofessionals generally work in an inclusionary setting (i.e. least restrictive environment). The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must ride the bus with student both to school and back
Assisting students in achieving academic success
Working with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
Personal care
Social integration
Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and Regular Education Teachers as well as related service staff
Any and all other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Qualifications Preferred but not Required:
Hold an Associates or higher degree, or
Have a minimum of 48.00 hours college credit, or successfully pass the Work Keys test (through the Workforce Center) for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing.

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District. The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 14,699 (2020), in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the Front Range (I-25 corridor).
