The Health Office LPN is responsible for providing nursing treatments, first aid, assessments, observations, evaluations, prevention and health education services to students to address their health needs according to district policies, health service procedures and state laws and regulations under the direction of the Licensed School Nurse. The Health Office LPN provides nursing services to assist students in maximizing their health to support and aid in their academic success.
Essential duties outlined below are intended as “representative” examples of the level, nature and decision making expected of positions assigned to this classification. Administers medications and treatments to students. Implements medication management through collaboration and working with parents, the Licensed School Nurse, and Health Care Providers to obtain proper authorization and to document health records. Oversees the proper storage and administration of medications.
Provides focused assessments and monitors children coming to the nursing office for illness or injury. Provides focused nursing care, treatments, triage, interventions, health assessments, referral and follow-up in conjunction with the Licnesed School Nurse as needed. Provides ongoing nursing assistance and management of health conditions in the school setting in such areas as diabetic, asthma, and seizure management. Administers first aid emergency care as indicated. Documents all health assessments in a chart for all visits to the health office.
Maintains and documents building and student health records and health charts including documentation and tracking of immunizations. Audits, monitors and follows up on all immunization requirements, notices, and correspondence necessary to obtain immunizations in accordance with policies, procedures and recordkeeping requirements.
Assists in building health screenings.
Educates, informs, consults with and collaborates with other building staff, parents, students and administrators concerning health issues, concerns or needs. Identifies and reports any communicable diseases to the MN Department of Health in accordance with State requirements under the direction of the Licensed School Nurse. Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
