1. Assists with the implementation of hospital orientation for new employees throughout the organization (i.e. clinical students/faculty, physicians, forensic staff, contract employees, etc.). Coordinates placement of clinical students & faculty as appropriate.
2. Collaborates with individual department directors to implement department-specific orientation for new employees throughout the organization. Each specialist will be responsible for monitoring & coordinating standardized department-specific orientations for new employees in designated group. Responsible for introducing new employee to proposed orientation plan and performing mid-orientation & end-orientation evaluations with the department director and the employee. Identifies and addresses educational needs throughout orientation to ensure completion of proposed orientation as initially projected. Observes that the employee is competent in their role and able to perform their specified job responsibilities by the end of orientation. If identifies a new employee as being unable to perform specified job responsibilities, the specialist will collaborate with the department director to implement an educational remediation plan. Specialists will provide evaluation feedback in the event of unsuccessful remediation and termination of employee is necessary. Department-specific evaluations of new employees should be on-going house-wide.
3. Assists unit Directors/Managers with documentation compliance of employee competency-based orientation (CBO) files throughout hospital orientation.
4. Collaborates with department managers to establish basic competencies for hospital personnel specific to department policies, procedures, and hospital equipment. This includes development of competencies for continuing education as appropriate. May assist other hospital staff with the development of new policies when appropriate.
5. Assists with the introductory and ongoing education/inservices for hospital employees regarding new equipment, procedures, and policies specific to their assigned departments. Participates in ongoing hospital educational/development programs as designated by department director (i.e. leadership development, nurse aide certification program, etc.).
6. Assists with the monitoring of performance improvement for opportunities within or related to the Education Department as designated by the director.
7. Participates in monitoring of the education department’s compliance with policies, guidelines and regulations as stated by PMC, Joint Commission, etc.
8. Active participation in hospital-wide/department-specific committees appropriate for the education department as noted by the director.
9. Demonstrates participation in ongoing certification programs required for various departments throughout the facility (ie. ACLS, PALS, BLS). Also participates in community certification programs (i.e. Heartsaver, AED, etc.).
10. Actively participates in community educational health programs as designated by director.
11. Assists with the monitoring of hospital contractual compliance for various allied health programs and colleges. Collaborates with allied health program faculty thru committees identifying & resolving any concerns that are not considered supportive of the growth & development of the medical center.
12. Assists with the coordination of online educational programs. Identifies department specific educational needs and implements programs to meet those needs as designated by Director of Education.
13. Arranges educational workshops throughout the facility when appropriate.
14. Ensures medical center staff is educated on topics of interest to help increase the knowledge
and competency of employees.
15. Adheres to dress code.
16. Collaborates with department leadership annually to review, document, and evaluate orientation programs.
17. Adheres to medical center policies addressing infection control, safety, and personnel guidelines.
18. Maintains patient confidentiality while treating patients and families with dignity.
19. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with the medical center code of conduct and applicable corporate policies and procedures.
20. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
