About the Department
Under immediate supervision, maintains landscaped areas in and around City sports fields, City buildings and grounds, communityparks, trafficislands, roadsides, works on special projects, supports special events, and other duties as assigned.
FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

Position Duties
Prunes trees, trims shrubs, mows, and edges.
Responsible for trash and weed control.
Supervising Department of Correction (D.O.C.) workers (as utilized).
Performs sports field maintenance, including irrigation system installation and repairs.
Performs sprinkler and drip irrigation repairs and adjustments, fencing, top dressing, and base/plate/anchor installation.
Assists with over seeding, aerating, and mowing operations.
Assists with parks construction work, including pouring concrete, framing, painting, plumbing, roofing, paving blocks, and electrical repair.
Performs routine maintenance of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
Assists in assembling new and/or repairing existing playground equipment.
Helps with set-up and operation of special events as needed.
Maintains municipal sports facilities.
Repairs bleachers, backstops, and fencing.
Sprays herbicides for pre-emergent and spot spraying of weeds, utilizing various chemicals, within landscaped areas.
Plants and maintains trees, shrubs, and turf; landscaping, crushed granite, and rocks.
Lines and drags baseball infields; installs new sports fields.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Basic construction and maintenance practices, methods, and techniques.
Grounds keeping, landscaping, and building maintenance practices and techniques.
Department of Corrections Policies and Procedures.
Skill in:
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
Operating mowers, blowers, weed trimmers, tractors and other small equipment.
Following oral and written instructions.
Using common hand and power tools.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions while performing vigorous physical activities.
Other Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
One (1) year experience in general maintenance work.
A valid Arizona driver's license required.
Arizona Pesticide Applicator License with License Category: Right of Way / Weed to be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Availability for weekend work required.
Available for on-call duties as needed.
Applicants must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the department to include morning, evening, and weekend shifts.
Must be able to pass Arizona Department of Corrections background check.
Park Maintenance/landscaping experience highly desired.
