Our client is seeking a Junior Mainframe Specialist to support a federal client in Dublin, OH. This is a hybrid work environment with consideration for remote employees. Qualified candidates must be eligible for Public Trust (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Analyze, document, and map legacy code written in Assembler, FOCUS, REXX, COBOL, and JCL
  • Capture business rules and data flows for modernization initiatives

  • Support requirements workshops, translating functional needs into user stories and technical tasks

  • Develop and unit‑test low‑complexity code fixes and enhancements under senior guidance

  • Contribute to API / web‑service wrappers that expose mainframe functionality

  • Estimate effort during sprint planning and update task status in Jira

  • Participate in daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives

  • Maintain diagrams, knowledge bases, and SharePoint repositories

Basic Qualifications:

  • 0–2 years professional programming experience OR relevant internship / academic projects

  • Coursework or exposure to at least one mainframe language (Assembler, COBOL, REXX, FOCUS, or JCL)

  • Familiarity with version control, testing fundamentals, and SDLC concepts

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

  • Eligible for Public Trust (U.S. citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lab or project experience with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, or job schedulers (e.g., Control‑M)

  • Exposure to APIs, web services, or microservices integration

  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Visio, Excel, and SharePoint

  • Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid delivery models
Education:
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
