Job Description
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Pit Master (Kitchen Manager) will be responsible for leading and directing all operations, ensuring operational excellence, and flawless in-store execution to support future growth. In addition, this individual will have a fine eye for quality food and execution, while also having a finger on the pulse of current trends in the marketplace. The Kitchen Manager will be a sales builder and a true brand ambassador with sound business acumen and a true passion for the hospitality industry, alongside being a strategic thought partner for the General Manager, our founders and the Director of Operations as they continue to expand and grow Edley’s Restaurant Group.
Specifically, the Pit Master (Kitchen Manager) will be responsible for:
- Champion the "Southern Soul": Embody and promote Edley's unique culture, fostering a positive and collaborative environment. Teach, protect, and hire for the "Southern Soul." • Master of the Pit: Ensure the highest quality food standards, upholding our core values of treating guests like family and delivering exceptional BBQ experiences.
- Drive Revenue Growth: Lead the kitchen team to achieve and exceed sales targets in existing and new locations.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the General Manager, founders, and Director of Operations to develop strategies for franchise growth and expansion.
- Financial & Operational Oversight: Analyze financial and operational performance, taking proactive steps to address any challenges.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain flawless execution in all areas, including guest satisfaction, product quality, facilities management, and local marketing.
- Inspire & Lead: Build and motivate a high-performing kitchen team with a hands-on, authentic management style.
- Stay Ahead of the Trends: Keep a pulse on current culinary trends, particularly in the Nashville BBQ scene, to ensure Edley's remains a leader in the industry.
Required Qualifications
- Culinary Expertise: Proven experience in kitchen management, preferably in a high-volume restaurant.
- Passion for BBQ: Deep understanding and appreciation for the art of smoking and grilling. • Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a team.
- Financial Acumen: Understanding of restaurant financials and ability to manage costs.
- Operational Excellence: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Guest-Focused: Commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences.
- Nashville Spirit: A genuine love for the Nashville community and its unique culinary landscape.
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a kitchen management role, preferably in a high volume, fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Proficiency with restaurant POS systems and other relevant software. • Culinary degree or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
- Relevant certifications, such as ServSafe, are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, as the role involves overseeing kitchen operations and interacting with staff and guests.
- Mobility and Movement: Ability to move freely throughout the kitchen and restaurant, including navigating tight spaces and varying floor surfaces.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry moderate weights, such as food supplies, equipment, and inventory items. While heavy lifting might not be the primary function, it could be required occasionally.
- Reaching and Bending: Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and kneeling to access ingredients, equipment, and storage areas.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, and paperwork. The ability to use knifes and other kitchen tools.
- Visual Acuity: Must have good visual acuity to monitor food quality, observe cooking processes, and read reports and documents.
- Auditory Acuity: Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and communication in a noisy kitchen environment.
- Ability to work in a hot and humid environment, as kitchens can become very warm, especially near smokers and grills.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Criminal Background Checking Policy
Edley's Restaurant Group requires a criminal check for all full-time employees upon hire once a conditional offer of employment has been extended by the hiring manager.
Although a disqualification is possible, in accordance with federal and state laws, a previous conviction does not automatically disqualify an applicant from consideration for employment with Edley's Restaurant Group. Depending on a variety of factors (for example,
the nature of the position, the nature of the conviction, age of the candidate when the illegal activity occurred), the candidate may still be eligible for employment with Edley's Restaurant Group.
However, if an applicant attempts to withhold information or falsify information pertaining to previous convictions, the employee will be disqualified from further employment consideration in any position with the company due to falsification of an application.
An offer of employment may be extended to an applicant prior to the completion of the criminal conviction check. However, the applicant's first day of work in the position must not be prior to the satisfactory completion of the criminal conviction check.
