SUMMARY OF POSITION: Performs skilled mechanical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of SSLGC water production, treatment, and distribution equipment. Responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and other mechanical components at water treatment and transmission facilities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Essential Duties* Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs water pumps, air compressors, blowers, motors, gearboxes, chemical feed equipment, piping, and valves. Performs preventive maintenance on water system equipment, including lubrication, belt and seal replacements, and alignment. Diagnoses mechanical problems using tools, test equipment, and technical manuals; replaces or repairs defective parts. Operates tools and equipment such as hoists, cranes, welders, cutting torches, drills, grinders, and other hand and power tools. Maintains records of maintenance and repair activities. Assists with equipment modifications and installations. Observes all safety rules and procedures.
Other Important Duties* Responds to emergency calls and performs after-hours work as required. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: The safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle code relating to operation of light and heavy motorized equipment. Practices, methods, materials, and tools used in mechanical maintenance and repair. Basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Physical ability to: Lift and maneuver up to 80 pounds (i.e. construction materials, pipe, etc.); climb and balance on ladder; do repetitive bending and kneeling; and perform strenuous work outdoors under adverse weather conditions. Ability to: Understand and follow written and oral instructions; operate, and/or ability to learn to operate standard maintenance equipment; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers; and maintain Texas driver's license (applicable to job responsibilities) and good driving record.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school graduation, or a General Education Development certificate; two years of experience performing repairs and maintenance in the mechanical trade.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: State of Texas Class C Drivers' License. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Operator “C” license is preferred.
