Supervisor: Special Education Teacher / Special Education Director / Principal

JOB GOAL: Assist Special Education teacher in skill acquisition as deemed appropriate in the student’s Individual Education Plan.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This position is specific to IEP requirements and other services that serve special education students as assigned by the Special Education Teacher, Special Education Director and/or Building Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed at least two years of related college education, an AA degree, or meet the Highly Qualified requirements by passing the Paraprofessional Praxis Exam with a score of 455 or higher
Prior successful experience working with special needs students.
Ability to assist students in their personal and physical care as needed.
Ability to apply Special Education rules, regulations and policies.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Hold a valid first aid card.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implements Individualized Education Plan assignments.
Other assignments specific to Special Education students needs as assigned by the Special Education Teacher or Director.
Knowledge of special education procedures and paperwork.
Work with disabled students to serve their specialized disability needs.
Be willing and able to receive and implement targeted training specific to students with disabilities based on their needs.
Maintains safe environment for students at all times.
Assists with loading and unloading children from buses, transitioning kids from classroom to lunchroom, music, recess, library, etc.
Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries.
Performs physical labor as required.
Maintains regular attendance in order to preserve continuity.
Performs other duties as assigned by Special Education Teacher, Director and/or Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be according to the current schedule.
EVALUATION: All classified employees will be formally evaluated by their immediate supervisor at least twice during their first year of employment and at least once each year thereafter. (Policy GCN/GDN)
