Job Title:  Special Education Assistant

Supervisor:  Special Education Teacher / Special Education Director / Principal

Job Classification:  Classified

• Completed at least two years of related college education, an AA degree, or meet the Highly Qualified requirements by passing the Paraprofessional Praxis Exam with a score of 455 or higher
• Prior successful experience working with special needs students.
• Ability to assist students in their personal and physical care as needed.
• Ability to apply Special Education rules, regulations and policies.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Hold a valid first aid card.

• Implements Individualized Education Plan assignments.
• Other assignments specific to Special Education students needs as assigned by the Special Education Teacher or Director.
• Knowledge of special education procedures and paperwork.
• Work with disabled students to serve their specialized disability needs.
• Be willing and able to receive and implement targeted training specific to students with disabilities based on their needs.
• Maintains safe environment for students at all times.
• Assists with loading and unloading children from buses, transitioning kids from classroom to lunchroom, music, recess, library, etc.
• Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
• Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries.
• Performs physical labor as required.
• Maintains regular attendance in order to preserve continuity.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Special Education Teacher, Director and/or Principal.
