Work in collaboration with the Child and Family Support Behavioral Specialist to support classrooms and/or individual students both directly and indirectly with their educational, personal, social, emotional, behavioral needs. This will include individual and classroom planning, responsive services, classroom support, or in many cases, a blending of these needs.
Provide intake observations, screening, referral or short-term intervention for preschool aged children who present challenging behaviors while in attendance in Minnetonka Preschool or Junior Explorers. Implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 social and emotional behavioral interventions with students on an individual or small group basis including counseling and crisis intervention services as needed.
Facilitate/lead student support team (SST) process for MCEC. Review data on pupils referred to the school problem solving team. Oversee implementation of interventions and supports prior to referral for special education assessment.
Support teachers and staff in the implementation of classroom-based Tier 1 interventions. Conduct lessons in classrooms using the Pyramid Model framework focusing on social emotional and behavioral skill development.
Provide individualized familial education support and referral information. Assist non-sped families to better understand the school and its programs and to strengthen the communication link between school and home.
Assist new students and families entering the school year after the school year begins.
Performs other duties at a similar level as directed by the Minnetonka Preschool and ECFE Coordinator or Executive Director of Community Education.
Specific Responsibilities:
Serve on building Instructional Leadership team and/or Pyramid Model Implementation Team.
Focus on identified aspects of school barriers as a result of the annual student survey and/or school-wide social/emotional data (where available).
Assist in the coordination of standardized assessment programs as needed.
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines. 2. Demonstrated ability to operate a computer, software and necessary classroom technology. 3. Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community. 4. Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations. 5. Show initiative and function as a self-starter. 6. Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
