Summary Description:
Assist students and school counseling department in all aspects of college and career coordination activities. Focus on college access, affordability and admission process, as well as career support and planning for those looking to immediately enter the workforce upon graduation.
NOTE: Items listed below are not ranked in order of importance. Essential functions do not include every task and responsibility.
Essential Functions: • Career Support and Planning
Assist students with resume development
Facilitate mock interviews
Utilize student peer review during both mock interviews and resume review
Coordinate internship opportunities
Identify mentors and coordinate mentorship opportunities
Identify and develop relationships with post-secondary training programs leading to career opportunities
Coordinate and assist with post-secondary training program visits.
College Access
Build strong list of potential colleges and program areas for students
Provide first-generation family support
Assist with recommendation requests and organization
Coordinate leadership activities with depth and passion as primary focus
Collaborate with coaches for student athletes identified for possible scouting/scholarships
College Affordability
Assist with FAFSA, PROFILE and Connecticut financial aid program form completion
Educate students and families on financial aid and how to compare packages
Support students to obtain grant aid to decrease debt responsibilities post college
Assist and support school counseling department in student scholarship programs
College Admission
Support students in coordinating ACT and/or SAT exams
Plan schoolwide activities
Provide Naviance training and support for students and staff
Coordinate College Admissions Representative fall visits
Promote on-campus visits and program exploration for students and families
Other Duties and Responsibilities: • Interact in a positive manner with all staff, students, parents and visitors • Respond to questions and requests in a timely manner • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation • Maintain a level of approachability by administration, staff, students, parents, and visitors • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Working knowledge of higher education system • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing • Considerable knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling • Knowledge of business communications
Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree required • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or designee find appropriate • Bilingual, Spanish fluency – preferred
Days: Monday – Friday (37.5 hours weekly) Work Year: August - June (10 Months/40 weeks) Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision
