POSITION SUMMARY:
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) are vital healthcare professionals specializing in conducting patient assessments, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. SLPs will develop, implement, and document treatment plans and goals designed to meet patient needs.
JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Service:

o Adheres to all Nexus Health Systems policies on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)
o Collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
o Actively contributes to the delivery of compassionate, patient-centered, and cost-effective care aligned with organizational goals and values.
• Clinical Excellence:
o Administers comprehensive speech therapy services to assigned patients in accordance with individualized care plans.
o Evaluates and diagnoses disorders related to speech, language, communication, and swallowing.
o Designs and implements tailored treatment plans for patients with neurological deficits, neurobehavioral conditions, and complex medical needs to support functional communication.
o Applies standardized assessments to identify and measure the severity of communication impairments.
o Delivers evidence-based therapy to enhance patients’ speech, language, and communication abilities.
o Demonstrates expert knowledge in the evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders.
o Provides developmentally and age-appropriate therapeutic interventions.
o Continuously evaluates patient progress and recommends assistive communication devices when appropriate.
o Conducts ongoing reassessments to track treatment effectiveness and adjusts plans to optimize outcomes.
o Maintains accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of patient progress and therapeutic interventions.
o Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences to share patient progress and update treatment goals as needed.
o Collaborates effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
• Patient Experience and Advocacy:
o Educates patients and their families on strategies, resources, and tools to promote continued independence and functional communication.
o Clearly communicates diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations to patients, families, and the care team.
o Actively contributes to discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care post-therapy.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance :
o Ensure all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
o Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
o Promotes of a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.
o Identifies opportunities to improve clinical workflows and enhance the productivity and efficiency of therapy services.
o Offers constructive feedback and innovative solutions to advance service delivery and department operations.
o Accurately records and submits daily therapeutic interventions and charges in a timely manner.
o Practices responsible use of resources and ensures proper maintenance of equipment to extend usability and reduce operational costs.
o Maintains open communication with the Director of Rehabilitation regarding departmental initiatives, progress, and areas for improvement.
• Professional Growth and Continuing Education:
o Completes annual education requirements.
o Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.
o Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.
o Participates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.
o Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor within the discipline of speech-language pathology.
o Delivers in-service training sessions as requested, contributing to staff development and knowledge-sharing.
o Supports student education and training by participating in the development and facilitation of clinical learning opportunities.
• Finance:
o Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
o Ensures timely and accurate documentation of services for appropriate billing and reimbursement.
o Optimizes the use of clinical resources and adheres to equipment maintenance standards to reduce waste and operational expenses.
o Participates in cost-effective planning and decision-making to support fiscally responsible care delivery.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
• Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
• State licensure to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 2 years' experience with pediatric and adolescent populations.
• Experience working in diverse clinical settings

• Proficiency in using speech and language assessment tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of alternative communication methods and devices.
• Experience in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
• State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist.
• Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
• Basic Life Support from American Heart Association/American Red Cross.
• De-escalation training within 30 days after hire.
• Must maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility.
