Job Title: Slitter Operator

Job Summary

Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining slitting machines that precisely cut large rolls of printed material into smaller, specified widths. This role ensures the quality of cuts, monitors machine performance, and performs routine maintenance while adhering to strict safety protocols to support overall production efficiency and operational excellence. Operators may be assigned to facilities in the Raleigh, Morrisville, or Durham areas and must be able to reliably commute to the designated location.

What You'll Do

  • Machine Operation & Setup: Set up and operate slitting machines to cut printed rolls to desired dimensions and specifications. Make necessary machine adjustments to ensure optimal cutting performance and maintain production schedules.
  • Quality Control & Inspection: Inspect finished products to ensure accuracy and adherence to specifications, including print quality, seam integrity, and dimensional requirements. Monitor cut quality throughout production runs and make adjustments as needed.
  • Material Handling & Management: Load and unload materials efficiently, including managing rolls of printed material and ensuring proper transfer to packaging or other production lines. Maintain proper inventory and material flow procedures.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance on slitting machines, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure optimal machine performance. Use technical documentation and manufacturer instructions to support efficient problem-solving.
  • Data Recording & Documentation: Accurately record production data, machine performance metrics, and quality measurements. Use production tracking systems to document job completion and material usage.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines including lock-out/tag-out procedures, and established housekeeping protocols to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with production teams, quality control, and management regarding production status, equipment issues, and resolution timelines.
  • Additional Duties: Support team operations by contributing to production goals and assisting in other duties as needed to ensure efficient functioning of the production unit.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant machine operation experience, preferably within the printing or manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with slitting machine operation, understanding of cutting blade systems, tension controls, and web handling equipment. Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of print quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and measurement techniques. Familiarity with production tracking systems and basic computer operations.
  • Skills: Excellent attention to detail and quality control capabilities. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform accurate measurements and calculations. Basic math skills for dimensional calculations and material usage.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate production status clearly.
  • Work Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work a 2-2-3-2 rotating schedule (7am–7pm for day shift or 7pm–7am for night shift) following a training period of 4–12 weeks (Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm).

  • Continuous Improvement: Look for opportunities to streamline slitting processes and improve efficiency, contributing to both productivity and quality enhancement.
